Legacy of 60 Years
KML Group was founded on 1st September 1966 as Kurunegala Merchants (Pvt) Ltd, rooted in the historic city of Kurunegala. Established by the late Mr. Punyadasa Perera together with Mrs. Chandra Perera, the company began as a regional distributor and was appointed in the same year as the official distributor for Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC in the Kurunegala region. Over the decades, the company grew steadily and by 2012 had become the sole distributor for the entire North Western Province, with its head office in Kurunegala and branches in Kuliyapitiya, Chilaw, and Puttalam. Guided by enduring values of honesty, integrity, and fair business practices, KML continues to thrive under its second generation of leadership, supported by a capable and dedicated team.
In 2012, KML Holdings (Pvt) Ltd was established under the visionary leadership of Mrs. Maheshi De Alwis, Attorney-at-Law. This expansion marked a new chapter for the Group, beginning with a strategic partnership with Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC and later extending operations to Anuradhapura in 2017, Kandy in 2019, and Colombo in 2023. The Group further diversified by entering the bottled water industry with Blue Fill Water, produced at its state-of-the-art facility in Doluwa, Gampola since 2023, while also becoming the authorized distributor for Phoenix Industries Ltd in Kurunegala and Anuradhapura. Most recently, KML expanded into the leisure sector through Kanlark Entertainment (Pvt) Ltd, with plans to develop a world-class tourism project at Kalpitiya Bay.

At the Phoenix Dealer Convention 2024/25, the company was recognized as the Top Performing Distributor in the Consumer Segment and the third-best in the Furniture Segment.
